1. Information We Collect

When you create a Comistitch account we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials. If you sign in through a third-party provider such as Google, we receive basic profile information from that provider.

We collect the story prompts, character descriptions, and configuration choices you submit to our AI-powered creative tools. The comic images and metadata produced are also stored on your behalf.

Payment information including billing address, subscription plan, and transaction history is processed and stored by our merchant of record partner. Comistitch does not directly store credit card numbers or bank account details.

We automatically collect usage data such as pages visited, features used, generation counts, and device or browser information to improve service quality and diagnose technical issues.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your account information to authenticate your identity, manage your subscription, and deliver the comic generation service. Your email address is used for transactional messages such as billing receipts and account notifications.

Story prompts and character descriptions are sent to third-party AI providers to generate comic artwork. We retain generated outputs so you can access, re-download, and manage your comics from your account.

Usage analytics help us understand how the platform is used, identify performance bottlenecks, and prioritize feature development. We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.

3. AI-Assisted Content & Creative Tools

You retain full ownership of all comic pages and images created through Comistitch using your prompts and characters. Comistitch does not claim any intellectual property rights over your creative outputs.

Your story prompts and character descriptions may be transmitted to third-party AI providers (such as Google Gemini) for the sole purpose of generating comic artwork. These providers process your data according to their own privacy policies. Comistitch is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google or any other AI provider.

Before a prompt is used to generate content, its text is also screened by a third-party content moderation service so that content prohibited by our Acceptable Use Policy is blocked. The service receives the prompt text and an internal request identifier, and does not receive your name or email address.

We do not use your prompts or creative outputs to train our own AI models. We select third-party AI providers whose API terms prohibit using customer inputs for model training. We do not share your creative outputs with other users unless you explicitly choose to publish them in the community gallery.

4. Data Storage and Security

All data is hosted on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure. Account data and comic metadata are stored in a PostgreSQL database. Generated comic images are stored in Google Cloud Storage.

Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256 encryption provided by Google Cloud. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel and protected by multi-factor authentication.

While we implement industry-standard security measures, no system is completely immune to breaches. In the event of a data incident we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

5. Cookies and Tracking

Comistitch sets a small number of first-party cookies that the service needs to work: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, a _cs_flags cookie that remembers which version of a feature you were shown, a locale cookie for your language, a cs_attr cookie that records the page or campaign that first brought you to Comistitch (kept for 30 days), a cs_tool_seed cookie that carries a free-tool result into the studio (kept for 7 days), and a cookie that remembers your cookie choice. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may also set a cf_clearance cookie to tell real visitors apart from automated traffic. The app also sets a cs_had_active_sessions cookie that remembers whether you had a comic in progress, so the dashboard can lay out the page before your data loads (kept for 1 year).

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate product usage and understand how visitors engage with our site. Google Analytics may collect cross-device and cross-session signals when you are signed in to a Google account that has enabled ads personalization; these signals are used solely for aggregate retention and demographic reporting within our Google Analytics property. To support accurate cross-device reporting, we send Google Analytics a hashed (SHA-256) identifier derived from your Comistitch user ID; this identifier is non-reversible and cannot be used to contact you outside the platform. You can opt out of Google Analytics measurement globally by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, and you can manage your ads personalization settings at https://adssettings.google.com.

We also use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how the studio and dashboard are used. PostHog stores an identifier in a ph_ cookie and in your browser's local storage on comistitch.com and its subdomains, records the pages you visit and the actions you take, and may record a replay of your session (mouse movement, clicks, scrolling, and text you type in the studio) so we can see where the product is confusing or broken. Inputs are masked on sign-in, account settings, and billing pages, and PostHog never receives your password or payment details. This data is used only to improve Comistitch and is not sold or shared for advertising.

When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline analytics cookies. If you decline, PostHog is not loaded, no analytics cookies are set, and Google Analytics runs in consent-denied mode, which sends only cookieless, non-identifying pings. Essential cookies are still used. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser, after which the banner appears again. You can also opt out of Google Analytics globally with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

6. Data Retention

Your account data, comics, and generation history are retained for as long as your account remains active. You may delete individual comics or your entire account at any time from the account settings page.

When you delete your account, all personal data, comics, and associated files are permanently removed within 30 days. Certain anonymized usage statistics may be retained for analytical purposes.

Payment and billing records are retained for seven years after the last transaction to comply with tax and financial reporting obligations.

7. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your personal data. You also have the right to object to certain processing activities.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@comistitch.com. We will respond to your request within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You can also download a copy of your data yourself at any time: in the app, go to Settings > My Account > Download my data. The file is JSON, contains your profile, comics, community activity, credit history and payments, and can be downloaded once every 24 hours.

8. Your Rights Under CCPA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of your personal information.

Comistitch does not sell personal information to third parties. To submit a data access or deletion request, contact support@comistitch.com. We will verify your identity before processing any request.

9. Third-Party Services

We use a merchant of record partner for subscription billing and payment processing. When you purchase a plan, your payment data is handled by our payment partner under their privacy policy and PCI DSS compliance standards.

Comic artwork is created with the assistance of third-party AI providers. Prompts are transmitted securely to these services and processed under their respective data processing agreements.

Our infrastructure is hosted on Google Cloud Platform. Google acts as a data processor on our behalf and is contractually bound to protect the confidentiality of your data.

10. Children's Privacy

Comistitch is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has created an account, we will promptly terminate the account and delete the associated data.
