Free AI Manga Dialogue Generator

A manga page can spend a whole panel on a character looking away, and that panel will carry more than three lines of explanation would. Dialogue written for print has to trust that. This generator writes to it: spoken lines kept short enough that a vertical bubble sits in the gutter instead of covering the art, internal-monologue captions holding the thing the character will not say out loud, and marked silence where the beat is doing the work. Describe the scene, who is in it and what each of them is keeping back, add a tone if you want to steer it, and you get labelled lines and captions you can place straight into panels. See It In Action

Input

Scene: Two third-years on the school roof, the day after one of them quit the track team without telling the other. Hana (quit, will not explain), Yuuki (hurt, pretending to be angry). Tone: restrained.

Your Manga Dialogue

CAPTION (YUUKI): She was sitting in the same spot as always. Like nothing had happened. YUUKI: You quit. HANA: Mm. [silent panel — wind across the roof, neither of them looking at the other] YUUKI: That's it? "Mm"? HANA: There's nothing I could say that you'd want to hear. CAPTION (YUUKI): There were about nine things I wanted to shout at her. CAPTION (YUUKI): I said the tenth. YUUKI: ...It's cold up here. Come inside.

Input

Scene: An ageing father hands his son the keys to the family bathhouse he can no longer run. Kenzo (stubborn, unwell), Sora (has a life in Osaka he has not mentioned). Tone: quiet, unresolved.

Your Manga Dialogue

KENZO: The boiler needs bleeding every Tuesday. SORA: Dad. KENZO: Tuesday. Not Wednesday. It sulks if you leave it. [panel: the keys on the counter between them, neither hand touching them] CAPTION (SORA): In thirty-one years he had never once asked me for anything. CAPTION (SORA): This was him asking. SORA: ...Show me the boiler, then.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is manga dialogue different from Western comic dialogue? +
Manga bubbles are usually narrow and vertical, so a line that fits comfortably on a Western page can swallow half a panel here. Manga also leans much harder on silence and on captions of interior thought, rather than having characters explain themselves aloud.
What does the tool do with internal monologue? +
It splits the scene between what is spoken and what is only thought. The unspoken half comes back as captions attached to a character, which is where the real content of a manga scene usually sits.
Can it write silent panels? +
Yes. Where a beat lands better without words the output marks a wordless panel in line, so you know to draw it rather than fill it. Say in the scene field if you want more or less of this.
How long will each spoken line be? +
Short by default, and split across consecutive bubbles when a thought runs long, so a tall bubble does not cover the figure work. You can still trim further once you see the lines placed.
Does it output Japanese? +
No, output is English only at the moment. It follows manga convention in pacing and structure, not in language, so it is aimed at English-language manga-style work rather than translation.
Does it account for right-to-left reading order? +
Lines come out in the order they should be read. If you are laying out right-to-left, place the first line in the right-most bubble of the panel and work leftwards.
