Free AI Original Character (OC) Generator

An OC generator — or OC maker, same tool, different search habit — turns a short character concept — an archetype, a few personality traits, a genre, whatever you already know — into a full original character (OC) profile: appearance notes, backstory summary, core flaw, and driving motivation, all consistent with each other instead of feeling like separate random-generator outputs stitched together. A good OC needs more than a cool design: it needs a backstory that explains the flaw, a motivation that drives every scene, and a physical description an artist can actually draw from. This tool writes that profile as text, not artwork; when you're ready to see the character, take the appearance notes to the AI character creator and generate a consistent hero reference image from them. Use this free tool to flesh out a side character fast, break through OC-designer's-block, or get a starting point you'll rewrite into something fully your own. No account needed to try.

How the oc generator works: your input is turned into a ready-to-use result

See It In Action

Input

Concept: a gruff mentor, secretly proud, haunted by a past failure. Fantasy setting.

Your Original Character

APPEARANCE: A broad-shouldered man in his fifties, close-cropped grey hair, a long scar across one forearm he never explains. Wears practical, undecorated armor — nothing that draws attention. BACKSTORY: Once led an elite squad that was wiped out following his own tactical error; he has trained no one since, until now. FLAW: Refuses to acknowledge attachment to his students, convinced caring about them is what got his last squad killed. MOTIVATION: To prove — mostly to himself — that he can protect someone this time without losing them.

Input

Concept: an effortlessly talented rival, deeply lonely, competitive to a fault. Modern slice-of-life setting.

Your Original Character

APPEARANCE: Sharp-dressed, always early, carries herself like she's already won. A restless habit of tapping her pen when she's not actually as calm as she looks. BACKSTORY: Grew up being compared to an older sibling who never had to try; excelling became the only kind of attention she knew how to ask for. FLAW: Treats every relationship as a competition, even ones that were never meant to be one. MOTIVATION: To be recognized as good enough on her own terms, without the comparison attached.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an OC (original character)? +
An OC, or original character, is a character you invent yourself rather than reuse from an existing show, game, or franchise — your own design, backstory, and personality, free to use however you want.
What does an OC generator profile actually include? +
Each result includes a short appearance description, a backstory summary, a core personality flaw, and the character's driving motivation — enough to write scenes with them immediately, not just a name and a look.
What is an OC profile generator, and how is it different from a name generator? +
A profile generator like this one returns a full character — appearance, backstory, flaw, and motivation. A name generator returns just a name. Use both together: generate the profile first, then run it through the character name generator to find a name that matches the personality.
Is this AI OC generator free? +
Yes — generating a profile is completely free, with no login required. A free Comistitch account only comes into play if you want to illustrate the character afterward.
How do I make an original character from scratch? +
Start with whatever you already have, even one trait like "stubborn" or "exiled prince." Type it into the concept field and the generator fills in the rest — appearance, backstory, flaw, and motivation — as a starting point you can rewrite into your own.
Can I use this as a manhwa OC generator? +
Yes — describe a manhwa-appropriate archetype (rival, second lead, mentor) and setting in the concept field and the profile adapts to it. Pair it with the manhwa character name generator for a name that fits the same tone.
Can I generate an OC for a specific existing story or fandom? +
This tool generates characters for your own original stories, not characters designed to fit into someone else's existing franchise or fandom continuity.
Do I need to know exactly what traits I want first? +
A few loose traits are enough — even conflicting ones (e.g. "confident but terrified of failure") tend to produce more interesting, three-dimensional results than a fully locked-down description.
Can I get the character illustrated after generating their profile? +
Yes — take the appearance description into Comistitch, create a free account, and generate consistent character art in your chosen comic or manga style.
What if I want a name to go with the profile? +
Pair this with the character name generator (or one of its variants) before or after generating the OC profile to get a name that matches the personality and genre.
Is this an "OC maker" or an "OC generator" — are they the same thing? +
Same tool, two names people search. Either way, what comes back is a text profile — appearance notes, backstory, flaw, and motivation — not artwork. If you want the character drawn, that visual step happens separately, in the AI character creator.
Can an OC maker AI actually draw my character? +
This one does not — it writes the profile in text. For the visual side, take the appearance notes to the AI character creator and generate one consistent hero reference image from them, which Comistitch then reuses automatically across every panel of your comic.
